A Rich History of Irish Heritage in Iowa
Iowa has a deep connection to Irish heritage, with many Irish immigrants settling in the Midwest during the 19th and early 20th centuries to work on railroads and in coal mines.

The festival, spearheaded by CVICA President Jim Walsh and former Waterloo Mayor Buck Clark, began in 2006 as a modest gathering.
According to CVICA member Kristina Miller, who joined in 2008, the event started as a small parking lot celebration at Jameson’s Irish Pub before evolving into a full-fledged festival the following year.
Today, Iowa Irish Fest is a cornerstone of Waterloo’s cultural calendar, drawing visitors from across the Midwest and beyond.
